It’s holiday season: leave the stress at home

As the holidays approach, we’re all thinking about the sunny getaway we’ve booked, imagining the sounds of the waves lapping on the shore and day-dreaming about those warm evenings spent with our friends and family — it’s an exciting time. But as you start to pack your suitcase the stress starts to mount; it’s hardly the relaxing break you envisioned.

There’s so much planning involved: you need to make sure you’ve got your passport, you’ve bought that map and you’ve exchanged your money into the right currency. There’s a lot to remember. And as your family grows, so does your to-do list — now there are five suitcases, five tickets and five boarding passes when there used to be one.

Planning is a vital part in all areas of your life, especially when it comes to considering your organisation’s IT infrastructure. Just like your dream destination, many organisations know where they want to be, but don’t have everything in place to complete the journey. There’s a whole list of things to consider: how many servers, routers or devices do you have? Where are they located? Are you prepared for security threats? It goes on and on…

As businesses grow, everything becomes more complex; it’s harder than ever to carry out accurate planning and preparations. Technology is quickly evolving — hybrid architectures and inter-dependencies only add to this. Communication needs to work well too, a lack of this and a great plan can fall to pieces.

We need to remember that getting where you want to be isn’t straight forward. We need to be bold enough to seek help in areas of our IT infrastructure that we’re not so confident with. This way you can have a solid plan that’s going to deliver results and make your business’ journey as streamlined and stress free as possible.

When your plan comes together and you start seeing results, you know that your hard work and preparation has paid off — just like when you finally get on that beach and all of your previous worries start to drift away.
